Hayden Panettiere recently revealed that her 11-year-old daughter, Kaya, has started calling her “Britney” — inspired by the actress’ iconic character Britney Allen from Bring It On: All or Nothing.
Speaking on CBS Mornings, Panettiere admitted she was initially confused when Kaya first used the nickname.
“It took me a second,” she shared, before realising Kaya and her friends had become fans of the cheerleading film.
“I was like, ‘Oh my gosh!’” the actress said with a laugh, adding that Kaya now even wants her to join Zoom calls with her friends.
“I’m cool now!” she joked.
Beyond the lighthearted moment, Panettiere also spoke about her relationship with Kaya, who lives in Ukraine with her father and Panettiere’s former fiancé, Wladimir Klitschko.
Despite the distance, the actress said they remain very close through regular FaceTime calls and visits.
“I fly over there as much as I can,” she explained. “She’s now 11 years old, and she’s calling Mommy more and more.”
The interview comes shortly after Panettiere addressed rumours that she had “abandoned” her daughter after relinquishing custody in 2018.
Speaking on On Purpose with Jay Shetty, the actress said the decision came during a difficult period in her life as she battled depression, anxiety and substance abuse.
However, she stressed that Kaya had built a happy and stable life abroad and she continues to support her from afar.
“I know in my heart that she feels supported,” Panettiere shared. “I have an incredible relationship with her.”
