Carson Daly has candidly opened up about the challenges of communicating with his teenage daughter, revealing that most of their conversations now happen through Snapchat instead of in person.
Speaking on Today with Jenna & Friends, the 52-year-old television host joked that he and his 13-year-old daughter, Etta, rarely speak face-to-face anymore.
“I have a 13-year-old, Etta, who is doing great, who I never speak with,” he joked during the segment.
“Do you speak 13-year-old? Because I don’t.”
Daly later showed a family photo taken during Etta’s Confirmation ceremony at a Catholic church, attended alongside his wife, Siri Pinter.
“There she is, Confirmed … so, she’s in God’s hands now,” he joked, drawing laughter from the audience.
Despite the communication struggles, Daly shared that joining Snapchat unexpectedly helped him reconnect with his daughter.
The The Voice host explained that he decided to “meet kids where they are” by joining the app about six months ago.
“I have literally communicated with my daughter, in particular, more via Snapchat than I have in real life,” he admitted.
According to Daly, even small exchanges on the app help maintain their bond.
“I can say, ‘Are you okay?’ and then I’ll put some stupid emoji,” he shared.
“And she’ll write back, like, ‘LOL,’ and all these little things are flying all over the screen.”
“As silly as it is, I am connected a little bit,” he added.
Daly and Pinter share four children together: Jackson, 17, Etta, 13, London, 11, and Goldie, six.
During the same interview, Daly also jokingly revealed one of his biggest concerns about his children’s future partners — dating someone vegan.
He explained that food plays a major role in bringing his family together, especially during their traditional Sunday meals and homemade pizza gatherings.
“If we didn’t have food, I wouldn’t talk to my wife about anything. It holds us together,” he joked.
