Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter, Zahara Jolie, appeared to quietly distance herself from her father’s surname during her graduation ceremony at Spelman College.
The 21-year-old graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology during the college’s 139th commencement ceremony held in Atlanta on Sunday, May 17.
While the official commencement programme listed her as “Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt”, her name was announced as “Zahara Marley Jolie” as she walked across the stage to receive her diploma.
It is not the first time Zahara has publicly used only her mother’s surname.
Back in November 2023, she introduced herself as “Zahara Marley Jolie” during her induction into the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
More recently, she also used the name during an appearance at the Pearls of Purpose Foundation’s Dearest Mother & Daughter: A Most Delightful Brunch Experience in April.
During the event, Zahara spoke warmly about her relationship with her mother, describing it as a deeply meaningful bond built on love, kindness and shared values.
“Our love for each other is a found one,” she said in a video shared on Instagram.
She also praised Jolie for raising her children with compassion and empathy, calling the Oscar-winning actress “the most selfless, loving and understanding woman” she knows.
In a previous Time 100 Talk interview, Jolie shared that she had learned a great deal from Zahara and admired her strong connection to her African roots.
In addition to Zahara, the former Hollywood couple are also parents to Maddox, Pax, Shiloh, and twins Vivienne and Knox.
