Jennifer Lopez gets emotional as twins prepare to leave the nest
Jennifer Lopez has opened up about the emotional reality of watching her children grow up, admitting she has been struggling with the thought of her twins leaving home for university.
The singer and actress recently became emotional while speaking about her 18-year-old twins, Max and Emme, during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, revealing that she has been crying for the past two months.
"Don't talk about it because I start crying," Lopez told host Jimmy Kimmel when asked about their upcoming high school graduation.
The milestone became even more emotional when she sat down to write messages for her children's school yearbook.
"When I tell you, the tears — it took me two days to write those things," she recalled.
While many parents may dread the idea of an empty nest, Lopez said she is trying to focus on the positive side of the transition.
Both teenagers will be attending different universities, a decision she fully supports because she wants them to pursue their own dreams and choose the paths that make them happiest.
The singer also shared that the family will soon begin packing up their rooms and preparing for the move.
"We're going to pack up their rooms here and they're going to take all the things that they want to take to their dorm," she said.
Still, Lopez could not help but joke about hoping her children might miss home sooner rather than later.
"Then they're going to realise that their dorms are too small and they're going to miss home. I hope they'll want to come back real soon. That's my plan," she added.
Despite the tears, Lopez insisted she is excited about what lies ahead for her children.
"All year people were asking me, 'They're going away to college, is it going to be terrible?' I'm like, 'No. It's going to be great.' They have big dreams. It's going to be great."
Lopez welcomed Max and Emme in 2008 with former husband Marc Anthony and has often spoken about how becoming a mother transformed her life.
Earlier this year, she shared a heartfelt birthday tribute to her twins, describing them as "two angels sent straight from heaven above" and reflecting on the special bond they have built together over the years.
The singer has also previously acknowledged the challenges of balancing motherhood with a demanding career. In an earlier interview, she recalled a conversation with her children when they were younger, when they told her they wished she could be around more often.
The moment, she said, helped her realise just how important her presence was in their lives.
Now, as Max and Emme prepare to begin a new chapter away from home, Lopez's story is striking a chord with parents everywhere — a reminder that raising children often means learning how to let them go, even when your heart is not quite ready.
