Scarlett Johansson says ‘work-life balance’ does not really exist in motherhood
Scarlett Johansson has opened up about the realities of juggling career, parenting and personal life, admitting that achieving a perfect work-life balance is “not possible.”
During an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, the actress shared that there will always be “a deficit in some area,” whether it involves work, family or personal wellbeing. Instead of chasing perfection, Johansson said she has learned to become more compassionate towards herself.
The actress, who is a mother-of-two, explained that welcoming her first child became a major turning point in her life. It shifted her priorities and changed the way she approached both work and motherhood.

Johansson also reflected on how parenting comes with constant emotional ups and downs. While speaking honestly about the challenges of raising toddlers, she admitted that parenting is not always about being liked by children, but about showing up consistently even during difficult moments.
At the same time, she shared that motherhood has also brought joy, love and a deeper sense of perspective into her life.
Her comments resonated with many parents online, especially those struggling to balance responsibilities while trying to be fully present for both work and family.
Sometimes, hearing someone admit that balance is imperfect can feel more comforting than hearing another “perfect parenting” story.
