Roblox is making online play safer for children under 16.
New Roblox Kids and Roblox Select accounts are now available in Malaysia, offering stronger safeguards and parental controls for younger users

As countries around the world, including Malaysia, continue strengthening online safety measures for children, Roblox has introduced two new account types designed specifically for users under 16.

Now available globally, including Malaysia, Roblox Kids and Roblox Select aim to provide age-appropriate experiences while giving parents greater control over their children's online activities.

Children aged 5 to 8 will automatically receive a Roblox Kids account, which only allows access to games with Minimal or Mild content ratings. Chat is turned off by default, although parents can choose to enable it.

Meanwhile, users aged 9 to 15 will be placed under Roblox Select, giving them access to moderately rated games while gradually unlocking communication features. Parents can also manage chat settings and decide which games their children are allowed to play.

The goal isn't to ban children from the digital world—it's to help them navigate it safely.

Once users turn 16, their account automatically switches to a standard Roblox account. However, access to more mature content requires age verification through ID verification or facial age estimation.

Roblox has also expanded its parental controls, allowing parents to block specific games, monitor friend lists, set screen-time and spending limits, and customise their child's experience based on age.

The platform says all games available to younger users undergo additional safety reviews, while users who have not completed age verification will not have access to chat. Social media links can only be shared or viewed by verified users aged 16 and above.

The latest update reflects a growing global push to make children's digital experiences safer. Rather than restricting access completely, Roblox is introducing age-based protections that gradually give children more independence while keeping parents involved.
